RIJEKA

POEMS

Finding yourself stranded on a cement-encircled beach, as the church's saint above your head greets.

An oasis next to where you lay your head,
the slight breeze a kind reminder to let go of that one loose thread.

Weathered buildings retaining their grace, and out of the city your soul strays.

Up, up, high, 561 steps past the daily lives of a hundred others,
The towers on the top common druthers.

Thick walls telling the tales of days long gone by,
oddly reminiscent of the inner stronghold of thy.

With a sudden rush back down the hill & past a broody passerby,
you meet me up here, where the seagulls laugh, mock and cry.

Eyes locked on our next adventure, close yet so far,
marveling at it above the roofs of Rijeka.
